With greater knowledge, skills, and health, extreme poverty is falling and economic and structural reforms have been undertaken to sustain economic growth.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6bdcc1d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6bdcc1d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><br \/>Malawi\u2019s economic growth is expected to increase in the medium term. However, with the economy largely dependent on rain-fed agriculture, it is vulnerable to external shocks \u2013 particularly weather-related shocks. The business environment in Malawi needs to become stronger by diversifying its economy and building resilience.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-91ee737 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"91ee737\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Despite progress, Malawi continues to face a number of challenges, with high levels of poverty and inequality. The country\u2019s current Growth and Development Strategy aims to overcome the challenges it is facing to build a productive, competitive and resilient nation. Running to 2022, it focuses on education, energy, agriculture, health and tourism.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-853bf4b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"853bf4b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<style>\/*! The EU also carries out electoral observation missions in Malawi.<\/p>\n<p>We also support the development of civic education and better access to justice for the poorest people, and stronger civil society organisations and media<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-3c18ecf elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"3c18ecf\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-inner-column elementor-element elementor-element-e681c35 egovt-border-color\" data-id=\"e681c35\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-314adda elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"314adda\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Support to the most vulnerable <\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c6fa7ab elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c6fa7ab\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>To fight poverty, building resilience is a priority in Malawi given the country\u2019s vulnerability to weather-related shocks. We aim at enhancing food and nutrition security and the population\u2019s general resilience to climate change, notably by supporting the onboarding of climate-smart agricultural technologies. We also contribute to Malawi\u2019s social protection programmes and gender is a crosscutting theme for all our cooperation with the country.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-befc4e4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"befc4e4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">The impact <\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d5b5d24 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d5b5d24\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>So far, our cooperation efforts in Malawi have brought the following results, via a blend of different implementation modalities (<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/international-partnerships\/budget-support_en\">budget support<\/a>, pool funding, a <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/international-partnerships\/how-we-work_en\">programme approach<\/a>, and partially decentralised management):<\/p><h3><strong>Education and skills<\/strong><\/h3><ul><li><p>21 secondary schools have been expanded, rehabilitated, and supplied with textbooks, allowing around 4,200 additionnal student to access secondary education every year.<\/p><\/li><li><p>Workshops have been built or rehabilitated in 20 technical training centres and 8 technical schools and test centres have been expanded.
