TOURISM FAIR IN TURIN, ITALY

Malawi participated in an Experts in Tourism meeting which was held at Medieval Castle in Turin, Italy on Monday, October 14th, 2013. The meeting was   organized by Jet Viaggi Group (www.jetviaggi.it). The meeting was sponsored by Etihad Airways of Abu Dhabi and Italo Group, a major high-speed train carrier for passengers in Italy. More than 150 people, most of whom were in the travel and tourism business from Italy and abroad (Israel, USA and Singapore just to name a few) attended the meeting.  The Guest of Honour to the meeting was the Mayor of Turin, Mr Piero Fassino.

The meeting was beneficial to Malawi as the country showcased tourists’ attraction centres to decision makers in the tourism industry in Italy.

ASSUMPTION OF SADC CHAIRMANSHIP

Malawi took over the Chairmanship of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Group of Ambassadors based in Brussels from Mozambique on 20th September, 2013. The handover ceremony took place at the Embassy of Malawi.

During the handover ceremony, the Ambassador of Mozambique, H.E. Ms Ana Nemba Uaiene, highlighted the activities that the country had undertaken during the country’s tenure. Some of the notable events included holding of a meeting between the SADC Ambassadors and the Mozambican Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs as well as the SADC Secretary General in Brussels.

In her acceptance speech, the Ambassador of Malawi, Dr. Brave Ndisale thanked her predecessor for the professional manner in which Ambassador Uaiene led the Group. She also articulated some of the things that Malawi intends to undertake during the year. Dr. Ndisale also pledged to work with all stakeholders to ensure that the Region benefits from and maximizes the support offered by the European Union.
