TRADE MISSION TO BELGIUM AND THE NETHERLANDS

The Embassy of Malawi in conjunction with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Malawi Investment and Trade Centre and Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry are organising a trade mission to Belgium and the Netherlands which will take place from 6th to 12th May, 2012. The purpose of the visit is to:

  1. Link Malawian exporters to potential markets and investors in Europe;
  2. Inform participants of financial and technical assistance opportunities available in Europe;
  3. Participate in Matchmaking Programme organised by the Government of the Netherlands; and 

  4. Visit agro processing companies in the Netherlands and an inland port in Belgium.

Malawi has a new Vice President

Vice PresidentHer Excellency Mrs. Joyce Banda, President of the Republic of Malawi has appointed Right Honourable Khumbo Hastings Kachali as Vice President of the Republic of Malawi with effect from Wednesday, 11th April, 2012. Right Honourable Kachali was sworn in on Friday, 13th April, 2012, at Mtunthama State Residence in Lilongwe.

Right Honourable Kachali is also Minister of Health and Vice President of the ruling People’s Party.

Before his appointment, Right Honourable Kachali, held a number of other cabinet positions in the previous administration of the Late President, Professor Bingu wa Mutharika. He served as Minister of Transport and Public Infrastructure, Minister of Industry, Science and Technology, Minister of Youth Development and Sports, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs and Internal Security and was also a Member of Parliament representing Mzimba South West Constituency.
