His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi, today, 26 November 2024, officially opened the inaugural Malawi–European Union (EU) Investment Forum at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.
The forum marks a pivotal step in Malawi’s development agenda, fostering a lasting partnership to drive private sector-led investments in strategic sectors such as Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining (ATM), alongside enabling industries like energy and finance.
A key highlight of the event was the signing of a €50 million financing agreement between Malawi and the EU. This funding will support critical initiatives in energy development, public finance, economic management, and agricultural commercialization, strengthening Malawi’s capacity to achieve sustainable economic growth.
Over the next two days, EU policymakers, entrepreneurs, and investors will engage with Malawian counterparts to explore opportunities and establish pathways for entering the Malawian market. The forum also provides Malawi access to the EU’s Global Gateway initiative, designed to stimulate investments in key sectors of the economy, further enhancing the country’s development trajectory.
